PET is a widely used polyester known for high clarity, strength, and barrier properties. Unfilled PET is the standard for beverage bottles, food trays, and textile fibers. For engineering uses, PET is typically modified. Glass fiber reinforced PET (30-45%) provides high stiffness and heat resistance up to 220°C, competing with PBT for electrical and automotive parts. Flame-retardant PET grades are used for insulation film and electronic components. Crystallized PET (CPET) withstands oven temperatures for food trays. Amorphous PET (APET) offers clarity for blister packs. Recycled PET (rPET) is increasingly used in strapping, sheets, and non-food containers. Modified PET with glycol (PETG) provides improved toughness and clarity for displays and medical packaging. Low-acetaldehyde PET is specified for sensitive beverage packaging. Barrier-coated PET extends shelf life for carbonated drinks. Heat-shrink PET sleeves are used for tamper-evident labels.
