PBT is a semicrystalline polyester offering high strength, rigidity, and fast crystallization, leading to short injection molding cycles. It has excellent electrical insulation properties and resistance to solvents. Typical applications include automotive sensor housings, connectors, coil bobbins, and LED reflectors. Modification is key to PBT’s widespread use: glass fiber reinforcement (15-30%) dramatically improves strength and heat deflection temperature to >200°C. Flame-retardant PBT ( V-0, often halogen-free) is standard for electrical connectors and switches. Hydrolysis-resistant grades are essential for under-hood sensors and components exposed to humidity and heat. Impact-modified PBT is used for automotive exterior mirror housings. Low-warp PBT (filled with mineral/glass hybrid) maintains flatness for large housings. PBT/ASA blends improve weatherability and surface appearance for outdoor appliances. Laser-markable PBT allows high-contrast labeling for electronics. High-flow PBT enables miniaturized connectors and thin-wall parts.
